Hi Craig,
Thanks for the video summary on love.
I wondered if there was a particular word for the love of a parent for his/her children. This seems to me to be different, in my perception at least, than the loves described by Lewis. I would exchange my life for the life of Kyle or Jacob or Nigel in a moment. The thought of their suffering with cancer, for example, gives me a vertigo-like sensation. Once, when Nigel was a baby, I was carrying him and tripped. As I fell, I flipped over so my back hit the ground first; there was no way I would land on Nigel or let go of him so I could stop my fall with my hands. It all happened without a thought, but it was unique - I've thrown groceries, books etc. all over in other falls. I thought about this feeling today when you were preaching because I could not image God letting his son die when he could have saved Jesus. What would the words "why hast thou forsaken me" do to a father who knew he could stop the suffering? Then I wondered at Jesus, who died to save his children, who took our suffering on himself so that we would not have to die. It's a terrible 'catch-22.' God intervenes to stop Jesus' suffering, but in doing so prolongs humanity's.
