La Dolce Vita: Lent and The Sweet Life

Featured

“ The Glory of  God is Men and Women fully human, fully alive.” St. Irenaeus, c. 170 AD

What if you someone were to write a description of your life and it looked like this:“I am amazed by how much love there is in my life. Everyday I am awestruck by how much joy I feel, and the peace in the midst of being able to wait out the tough times. My friends describe me as kind, genuinely good and loyal. I am both a gentle, tender soul and resolutely committed to walking with integrity”

Two thousand years ago the Apostle Paul described what he believed to be such a life,  for those who cultivate the spiritual life. He described it as the fruit of the spirit, of being able to live life fully characterized by love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Christ The Redeemer Anglican Church would like you to join us for a spiritual exploration of La Dolce Vita, the Sweet Life, of finding that life can be sweet indeed.

We will meet at 6:00 pm every Monday for a simple pot luck and then start our session at 7:00 pm

La Dolce Vita Online Forum

We want you to help explore the sweet life. Throughout March we will be keeping a La Dolce Vita  Facebook page and inviting you to share thoughts, quotes, stories, songs, movies, scriptures, on the subject. Who should be the patron saint(s) of each, who exemplifies it? Is there a link to someone who has wisdom on how to live the Dolce Vita?  Would you like to post an essay, a reflection on love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control?

Each Sunday sermon in Lent will be a scriptural reflection on different aspects of The Sweet Life. We will be gathering our collective wisdom and publishing it on the internet and inviting people to join us. After each session we will be inviting you to share what your thoughts and post them online. It will be a way of seeking together for the Sweet Life, a life worth living.

Community Pancake Dinner

We’re inviting the whole neighbourhood….

Tuesday February 21st is “Shrove Tuesday”. It also is known as Mardi Gras (“Fat Tuesday) and Pancake Tuesday. Historically in England people would use up all of the fat in the house before Lent. (Lent is a traditional 40 day time of fasting before Easter). So, pancakes it was.

We celebrate it with a big pancake dinner, have some games for the kids and some Mardi Gras themed entertainment. We would like to invite the neighbourhood to join us: sort of like a big pancake block party! Please join us, starting at 6:00 pm.

Their is no charge (though there will be a donations box). Please call or email us to let us know you are coming so we know how many pancakes to make. See you there, bring a friend!

Free Conversational English and Coffee Drop In

We are pleased to launch a new ministry at Christ the Redeemer! We are inviting folks to join us on Tuesdays from 10:00 am to 11:30 am for an opportunity for conversational English.

It is lead by Soji Perinbam. Soji has a passion for helping folks who are new to the country help develop their conversational English skills. It is not a formal class, just a chance to have a cup of coffee and chat at whatever level you are comfortable with.

You are also welcome just to join us for coffee. Please help us get word out and if you know someone who could benefit from practicing their English, feel free to drop in, email us or call.
